Plans offer a choice of premium, deductible and cost-sharing amounts and are generally available as either a stand-alone prescription drug plan or may be included in a Cost or Medicare Advantage Plan.

Am I Eligible for Part D Prescription Drug Benefits?

You are eligible for Part D prescription drug benefits under these criteria:

  • Be entitled to Medicare Part A and/or enrolled in Medicare Part B
  • Live with-in the plan’s service area
  • Continue to pay your Medicare Part B premium (and Part A, if applicable)

When Should I Enroll in Part D?

Part D has certain enrollment periods and rules about when you can enroll or make changes to your coverage.

  • Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) occurs when you are newly eligible for Medicare – three months prior to, the month of, or three months after your 65th birthday. Or, after month 24 of receiving disability benefits.
  • Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) allows you to make one ‘election’ between October 15th and December 7th of each year.
  • Special Enrollment Period (SEP) may apply in certain situations. If you qualify, you can enroll outside the IEP and AEP.
